In Britain, government-licensed pall-bearers are sometimes required to carry coffins on shopping carts rather by hand, thanks to regulations from the Department of ’Ealth and Safety.
In France, people are conditioned not to pick up garbage they accidentally drop on the ground. It would steal work away from public street sweepers, complete with government-issued brooms.
In Hawaii, public schools are forced to be closed several Fridays out of the year, which means (because Wednesdays there are half days) children sometimes get 3½-day school weeks. Why? The state doesn’t have enough money to keep schools open every Friday of the school year.
A popular teddy bear company has created a new Christmas movie in which the holiday’s existence is threatened. This is because the North Pole is on the brink of melting away due to man-made global warming climate change.
And a priest in England informs his congregants that it’s OK to steal, as long as they do it at a big bad chain store and not at a small mom-and-pop establishment.
What do these stories have in common? They are all the natural consequence of the poison of liberalism: overregulation by bureaucratic busybodies; citizens being conditioned to abdicate personal responsibility; governments wasting the money of its own taxpayers that it can’t even perform the simple task of keeping public institutions open full time; pushing faux science alarmism to impressionable children; and squishy moral relativism.
These are some of the blood-boiling stories covered by Mark Steyn, who filled in for El Rushbo on December 23.

On this glorious brisk Christmas morning, Loud Lion so graciously pounded this installment of the (quasi-)Weekly Roar. (He kind of had to; we’re at the sitting at the same table right across from each other.)
What I want this Holiday Season
‘Tis the season to make lists, lists of the best, lists of the worst, lists of lists.
Speaking of which, I happen to be reading my local newspaper, the New York Daily News, and they had a list of the years worst parents, and in this list was the liberals’ newest and favorite punching bag, Sarah Palin.
Now, how did Sarah Palin get this wonderful distinction along side such upstanding parental units like, “Balloon Dad”, “OctoMom” and John & Kate? Well, it seems in an interview Levi Johnston said he “overheard” Sarah Palin call her Downs Syndrome child Trig, her retarded baby. Firstly, anyone who has watches Sarah Palin with her children, or read her book could tell that this is absurd. Anyone with a sense of a brain can tell that Levi Johnston is a publicity hound, looking for an extension of his 15 minutes of fame.
Well, my list of the year is people who need to fade away. So, congrats Mr. Johnston, you like your child’s grandmother, are on a List for 2009.
Second on my list, and number one in my heart is Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. What can we say that can convey my utter contempt for a woman who is so willing to strip citizens of their freedom that she is willing to throw the nation under the bus?
Third, because they go hand in hand, is Senator Harry Reid. A nation that loudly screams that they do not want government control health care, yet he pushes it through anyway.
Fourth would be President Obama. When over 40% of people polled say they would rather have President George W. Bush back as president over President Obama, well, you know that I am not the only one who has Barry on their list.
Fifth, is the not-so-distinguished Senator from Minnesota. The rules of the Senate are that you have 10 minutes to speak, and that you are allowed additional time if asked for and granted by the President of the Senate. Well, Stuart Smalley was President Pro Tem one day while Senator Lieberman was speaking on the floor. His 10 minutes were up, and Stuart informed him of this, and as right, Senator Lieberman asked for additional time to finish up. Stewie refused him.
In the history of the United States a Senator has never been refused extra time to finish … NEVER.
Sixth would be television personalities of MSNBC. I could list them and make them #6 through #10 and list plenty of reasons why they need to go away. But you know what? Why give them the satisfaction of listing the reasons and continuing to talk about them? So, just like their ratings show, we will just ignore them.
Seventh would be John and Kate, just because they are on every bad thing of 2009 list.
Eighth is Albert Gore, Jr. His refusal to admit that maybe Global Warming might not be what he has been screaming about shows his limited vision of the world we all live in. Admitting that pushing the Global Warming and carbon offest is beneficial to his bottom line would go far in peoples view on Fat Albert and his pushing a radical view.
Ninth, is the Yankees … cause everyone except Yankee fans hates the Yankees.
Tenth is 2009, because we could list many, many, many reasons why 2009 sucked.
Here is to the end of 2009 and the bright hopeful future of 2010. May you and your family experience all the joy and prosperity needed to weather the upcoming liberal storms.
A friend sent me this. Hilarious!

From BBC’s “The Now Show” (transcript from The English Blog):
The delegates came and the delegates sat
And they talked and they talked till their bums all went flat
Then a delegate said of the country he knew
“We must do something quick but just what should we do
So they sat again thinking and there they stayed seated
Sitting and thinking “the planet’s been heated”
“I think” said a delegate there from Peru
“That we all must agree on some things we could do
Like reducing emissions at least CO2”
So they nodded and noted then vetoed and voted
And one of them stood up and suddenly quoted
“It’s the science you see, that’s the thing that must guide us
When the leaders all get here they’re certain to chide us”
So they sat again thinking about what to think
Then decided to ponder what colour of ink
To use on the paper when they’d all agreed
To be selfless not greedy McGreedy McGreed
“But how do we choose just what colour to use”
Said a delegate there who’d been having a snooze
“We need clear binding targets definitive action
We must all agree clearly without more distraction”
So they sat again thinking of targets for ink
But the ink in their thinking had started to stink
And they started to think that the ink was a kink
In the thinking about real things they should think
“If ze climate needs mending then zis is our chance”
Said the nuclear delegate sent there by France
“We need to agree on one thing to agree on
Something we all want a fixed guarantee on”
“Yes” said another who thought this made sense
Some value for carbon in dollars or pence
But the mention of money and thoughts of expense
Had stifled the progress and things became tense
The fella from China with a smile on his face
Said “Who put the carbon there in the first place?”
“Wasn’t us” said the U.S then Europe did too
Then a silence descended and no words were spoken
Till a delegate stood up, voice nervous and broken
“Is there nothing upon which we all can decide
Because on Wednesday my chicken laid eggs that were fried”
“We all like a sing song” said the bloke from Down Under
But then the great hall was all shouting and thunder
Policemen had entered and were wearing protesters
Who they’d beaten and flattened like bloodied sou’westers
The police had decided to downplay this crime
With prevention detention and beatings in rhyme
The Greenies who’d shouted and asked for a decision
Were now being battered with lethal precision
All sick of inaction and fed up of waiting
All tired of the endless debated placating
They’d risen up grating berating and hating
So the police had commenced the related abating
Ban Ki-moon put his head in another man’s lap
And was last heard muttering something like “crap”
But the chap next to him said “It’s more like it’s poo”
So the great hall debated not what they should do
But how to decide between crap cack and poo
“It is poo” “It is cack” “It is crap” “We agree”
Which was written and labelled as Document Three
“I think if we all find one thing we agree on
Then maybe Brazil might be left with a tree on”
So they sat again thinking of trees and Brazil
And of glaciers which had retreated uphill
And they thought of the poor folks whose homes were in flood
But less of the protesters covered in blood
They pondered the species so nearly extinct
It’s as if they all thought that these things might be linked
“We need a solution we need action please”
Said a lady who’d come from the sinking Maldives
The others all nodded and said it was fact
That the time must be now not to talk but to act
Then Obama arrived and said most rhetorical
“Action is action and not metaphorical”
“Wow” they all thought “he must mean arregorical [sic]”
“I love it when Barack goes all oratorical”
“But he problem I have is that Congress won’t pass it
“Bugger” said Ban Ki then “sorry” then “arse it”
Then Brown said “I’ve got it now how does this strike you?
It’s simpler when voters already dislike you”
He suggested the EU should lead from the front
So The Mail and The Telegraph called him something very unpleasant indeed
So the delegates stared at the text with red marks on
Ignoring the gales of laughter from Clarkson
No-one was satisfied nobody won
Except the morons convinced it was really the sun
And they blew it and wasted the greatest of chances
Instead they all frolicked in diplomat dances

On the cult of personality that is President Golden Calf:
Commentary Magazine | December 21, 2009
A Political Earthquake
RICK RICHMAN
… In January, George W. Bush left office with a “Strongly Disapprove” rating of … 43 percent. It took Bush eight years to achieve that level of strong disapproval, despite how the mainstream media pummeled him for years. Obama has reached that level in 11 months, despite a media that for months could not use his name in a sentence without also adding “Lincoln” and “FDR.”
To appreciate the magnitude of Obama’s ratings fall, consider that after his first full day in office, his presidential index was positive 30. Today’s index of negative 17 reflects a swing of 47 points in less than a year.
A commenter at the Huffington Post today observes that Obama has “accomplished the remarkable feat of both demoralizing the base and completely turning off voters in the center.” The president has also unified the Republican party and created a tea-party movement that in some polls is more popular than both the Democratic and Republican parties. …
On government-run health (s)care:
American Spectator | December 21, 2009
Obama Doesn’t Care
By Andrew ClineObama’s damn-the-details, just-pass-anything approach has lost the support of the nation. Americans would rather Washington slow down and do health care reform right than pass some half-baked scheme.
But Obama doesn’t care. He insists on passing something—anything—before the 2010 elections, when he might lose the votes he needs to pass a plan that grants Washington enormous new powers and lays the groundwork for a single-payer system.
Republicans ought to be pointing out the dangers in rushing legislation into law. They can start with the story of last week’s spending bill. As Fox News has reported, the bill was supposed to allow Amtrak passengers to carry guns on the trains, as long as the guns were locked in a box. But that section was incorrectly worded. The law, which Obama signed last week, requires gun-carrying passengers to be locked in a box for the duration of their trip. (Yes, you read that right.)
There are 2,074 pages in Harry Reid’s health care bill. What surprises await? There’s no telling. The Democrats want to pass it within five days. Could you finish a 2,074 page bill, written by lawyers, in five days, and understand it? Can your senator?
This bill will entirely remake a sixth of the U.S. economy. It will, as Obama said last week, “touch the lives of nearly every American.” The consequences of getting it wrong are tremendous. And yet the president says, don’t worry about the details, just pass it. Comforting, isn’t it?

Arbitrary Power, Dictatorship, and Health Care
Is the essence of dictatorship — and its institutional foundations — now being built into federal law?
by John David Lewis… Officials may gather whatever taxpayer information they decide is necessary. “The secretary shall collect such data as may be required to establish premiums and payment rates for the public health insurance option and for other purposes under this subtitle” (Sec. 321). Section 412 requires employers to submit “such information as the commissioner may require” to multiple federal agencies.
The bill institutionalizes such coercions by establishing over one hundred new commissioners, boards, committees, and programs, each with its own area of control. (For a list, see here.)
America is not a dictatorship. These bills are available for us to read, and we are able to discuss them openly, to agree or to disagree, and to speak and write about them in forums both public and private. But we will not be free to escape either the regulations which a faceless bureaucracy will write in order to enforce its edicts, or the decisions made by such bureaucrats over our lives.
If you are an employer, you will not escape punishment if a bureaucrat decides that your health plan is not “acceptable” and that you must be fined for your failure to meet his decision. If you are an individual who does not want to purchase full-coverage health insurance, but would rather buy catastrophic insurance that covers hospitalization only, your decision will not be “acceptable” and you may face a government audit and a new tax.
Do you have a serious disease? Does your doctor wish to readmit you to the hospital? A bureaucrat will decide whether or not you get treatment, based on a statistical analysis of the number of such readmissions by the bureaucrats: “excess readmissions shall not include readmissions for an applicable condition for which there are fewer than a minimum number (as determined by the secretary) of discharges for such applicable condition for the applicable period and such hospital” (Sec. 1151).
The scope of power here extends to the very definitions of terms within the law. This leaves the meaning of the law fluid and subject to the will of the bureaucrats. Section 1151 continues: “The term ‘applicable condition’ means, subject to subparagraph (B), a condition or procedure selected by the secretary among conditions and procedures for which (i) readmissions (as defined in subparagraph (E)) that represent conditions or procedures that are high volume or high expenditures under this title (or other criteria specified by the secretary).” …

Libs Scold Black Conservatives
By Lloyd MarcusWhile in the supermarket checkout line, I saw Rev. Al Sharpton, the poster child of the “America Sucks for Blacks” campaign, on the cover of Ebony magazine. Gag me.
I searched the internet. Former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas have never been featured on the cover of Ebony. Think about that. Before the election of Obama, the two most powerful blacks in America (Rice was the also most powerful woman in the world) have never graced the cover of black America’s most prestigious magazine. Why? Because most black media outlets wish to keep the “blacks need liberals to achieve” thing alive. Rice and Thomas achieved their phenomenal success the old-fashioned way: They earned it.
Sharpton on the cover of Ebony magazine is typical of liberal black media’s betrayal. They have been feeding their people spin and untruths for years, all of which is designed to keep blacks on the government dependency plantation and voting for Democrats.
Imagine how empowering it would be for blacks if Ebony featured a self-made black conservative on its cover. When I say “self-made”, I do not mean without any assistance. No man is an island, and all who succeed had help along the way. I am talking about achieving through education, hard work, and doing the right things—as opposed to the demeaning liberal path to success, which is lowered standards, playing the victim card, and affirmative action.
Frustratingly, entrenched false paradigms are difficult to break. The Republican party was founded partly to end slavery. Historically and today, Republicans have proven themselves to be far greater friends to blacks than the democrats. And yet most blacks believe that Republicans are racists. Despite numerous mega-rich blacks and America electing a black president, most blacks mindlessly embrace the liberal lie that America has not changed much since the 1950s. Compassionately, I want to grab black America by the collar and slap it while yelling, “Wake up...snap out of it!” …
On political correctness and speech suppression:
Human Events | December 22, 2009
Politically Correct in ‘09
by Ted NugentOf the many self-inflicted problems that face our country, none is as dangerous to the survival of our nation as the curse of political correctness.
Political correctness is a cancer that many Americans, government institutions, businesses and even many individual citizens have willfully embraced and now serve as hosts who intentionally spread this horrible disease.
Let me be clear: political correctness is a form of cowardice that leads to brain damage. It concerns itself with feeling good instead of thinking clearly and actually doing good. It masks the truth because the truth is too uncomfortable for the intellectually and spiritually weak in our society. To others, political correctness serves as a useful smokescreen. Political correctness is ultimately about stepping on the throat of common sense and strangling the life out of it. Logic be damned. …
Until America returns to a policy of bold, unabashed truth, logic, honesty and common sense, the rest of our financial and social problems will continue to escalate. It is impossible to truly fix a problem by “feeling good” about fixing it. Only idiots go hunting with a “feel good” arrow in their quiver. I hunt with razor sharp arrows and I actually kill animals and then I eat them. If you have a problem with that you are stoned on weird and hopelessly addicted to denial.
On … I don’t know what:
Big Government | December 22, 2009
Obama: A Republican Plant?
by Bob ParksMany of us had no idea the Republican Party had it in them, but to devise and implement such a plan was ingenious. Think about it; party leadership acting totally inept while a charismatic young Democrat presidential candidate captures the imagination of the normally lethargic youth vote, captures the senior vote, women, and even sends a thrill up the leg of the media.
And within a few short months after attaining the presidency, he conducts himself in a manner (personally and in office) that had not only invigorated his political opponents, but has them so energized they take to the streets and even march on The Capitol (more than once). One would have to conclude Barack Hussein Obama is either the most politically clueless president ever, or… is really a stealth Republican destroying the Democrat Party from within.
Is Barack Obama a Republican plant? …
Barack Obama is no accidental gift to the Republican Party. While he bows to every foreign leader possible, he’s really taking a bow for the GOP that secretly installed him as president to do what no Republican could ever get away with. Republicans owe a sincere debt to Mr. Obama who sacrificed many years of his life to prepare for the total (and willing) destruction of the Democrat Party.
And the best is yet to come.
Damn!

This was written up by Carole at TalkingSides.com, with two order-changing tweaks from me, ever the perfectionist songwriter:
On the first day of Christmas Obama gave to me:
A health care bill nobody’s read.
Etc., etc., etc., ...
On the twelfth day of Christmas Obama gave to me:
12) Weakened foreign standing,
11) Civil trials for terrorists,
12) Ten percent without jobs,
9) Climate Propaganda,
8) A Nobel Price for nothing,
7) Narcissistic speeches,
6) A raise in the debt ceiling,
5) Huge deficits,
4) Useless trips abroad,
3) Trillions more in spending,
2) Cuts to Medicare,
1) And a health care bill nobody’s read.
Happy happy.

Here are two quotes (well, more like monologues) from El Rusho. No wonder the left fears and loathes this guy!
On 9/11 terrorists being tried in civilian court:
The idea that these guys are going to be acquitted is very real even without a jury pool that includes Greenwich Village and the Upper East Side. We are bringing noncitizens to the United States for trial at a court after they are thus going to be conferred with what amounts to new US citizenship rights. … [I think he meant Upper West Side, who are significantly more left-wing. (I ought to know. Before 9/11, and before my political “awakening,” I used to live there). You’ll actually find some Republicans on the Upper East Side.]
Do you realize Barack Obama is tougher on insurance companies than he is on the 9/11 mastermind? I want to know—Eric Holder—I’m still struck by things he said in his press conference. “We gotta find a jury of their peers.” These guys are not citizens! Who the hell are we going to find that is a jury of their peers?
Do you realize we’re standing 200 years of America history on its head? A jury of their peers!? The only one I can think of is Chris Matthews, but we need 11 more. You know what I think we ought to do? I think Obama needs to appoint Cindy Sheehan to the federal bench and let her be the judge in the case. I mean if they’re going to make a mockery of this, let’s go to all the way. Who else besides Matthews would be on the jury of a bunch of peers? Olbermann? I can’t get off of it. Jeremiah Wright, oh, except he doesn’t live in New York. Ayers, yeah.
—El Rushbo, November 16, 2009
Yes, I unabashedly swiped this graphic from Rush’s website. It’s just so awesome!
On record unemployment despite the stimulus pork bill:
TARP was not about bailing out the financial sector! If it were, there wouldn’t be over half of it left. Over half of the TARP money is left. The original purpose was buying up toxic assets and getting credit flowing again. After they got it passed, guess what? It turned into a liquidity thing for the banks, saving the banks.
Stimulus was about what? Creating jobs. And we’re at 10.2% unemployment! … It’s a slush fund!
Look where the money is going: It’s going to political cronies and allies. Next year, it’s going to go to Democrats for their reelection campaigns. Only 14% has been spent, ostensibly to create jobs. It was never for that.
Now, if you go to Congress as president, say, “I want a $750 billion slush fund. I want you to authorize for me $750 billion so that I can buy political favors with it,” he’d never get it done. But if you go there and say, “We gotta save jobs, we need a stimulus bill, infrastructure, shovel-ready jobs, put people back to work, we gotta rebuild this economy.” … Everybody signs on, because who’s against rebuilding the economy? Who’s against people working (other than Obama)? Who’s against any of it?
So you sign it, and you pass it, and the same thing with TARP. What you end up with, in fact, is two slush funds. That’s what we’re dealing with here.
Climate change? Slush fund! Health care? Slush fund! With the added benefit that with all that money and newly acquired power, the world body, whoever it would be, and the Obama government get to regulate every aspect of human life under the auspices of “saving money” and “cutting costs in health care.” …
It's the thug Democrat way of doing things. You can't get what you want with the legitimacy of a democratic vote because nobody is in favor of this stuff, so you go buy it, and that's what they're doing.

Remember this pathetic Newsweek cover story from a few weeks ago?
Just when you thought this left-wing rag couldn’t become any more of a sad caricature of itself, they surprise you:
The Thinking Man's Thinking Man? How about the Con Man's Con Man?
Robocop at Angry White Dude has some more select words:
The Thinking Man’s Thinking Man??? Just what the hell is that supposed to mean when you are referring to an absolute dunce???
The story is titled, “The Evolution of an Eco-Prophet”. An Eco-Prophet? So, they make up titles for him just like he makes up his “Junk Science”. Perhaps they should try just a moment of truth and use a more accurate title, “The Evolution of a Lying Eco-Profiteer”.
Get your spew bag ready … this is just more of the “Main Stream Media” being a bitch for the extreme leftist, socialist agenda of the demonrats and this Gorey buffoon. The tripe cover story is another love fest of the media whores being pimped by the sleazy “Inventor of the Internet” for his boundless ego and his shameless profiteering. Read it and you will feel slimy … guaranteed.
Stop the madness. Think for yourself. Get the real facts from real scientists who are experts in the field of climatology. Then you decide why anyone should listen to this fraud and wonder why people continue to line his pockets with gold.
