*OK, you could persuade me that Obama ties for first place with Jimmah Carter
Every year at Passover, I reflect on the Exodus story and how it squares with the international events of modern times. For at least four Passovers I broke “bread” with a table comprised of very liberal Democrat relatives who were absolutely convinced that then-President George W. Bush was the devil incarnate. This despite of the fact that Bush was not only arguably the most pro-Israel president in history but just liberated 50 million Iraqis and Afghanis from their own bondage.
But to them it made no difference. If there’s one thing demonstrated continually by virulent anti-war liberals/Democrats, Jewish or not, it was that hating Bush was more important than loving freedom. I couldn’t help but wonder whether they were aware of the irony we sat together with the Hagaddah retelling the story of slavery and freedom.
Now enter our current president. His Jewish cabinet members notwithstanding, Barack Hussein Obama is arguably the most anti-Israel U.S. president in history. In fact, as Jews begin observing Passover this evening, it is instructive that 9% of Israels consider Obama pro-Israel. (and this Jerusalem Post poll took place before Obama snubbed Bibi Netanyahu this week.)
So now instead of sharing a Seder table with haters of a pro-Israel president who freed millions in the Middle East from slavery, I will now be sharing it with lovers of an anti-Israel president who not only feels no responsibility to those his precedessor freed, but who has in addition enslaved his own citizenry with the most draconian piece of socialism ever to be acted by a U.S. president.
I can’t wait!
Even the White House will be having a Seder. This will be the second time. Last year before the first one, yours truly wrote this:
Obama Has No Business Attending a Passover Seder, Let Alone Hosting One… I don’t think the hosting of a seder by President Obama is funny, or even appropriate for that matter. I firmly believe that Obama’s actions as president, as well his voting record as senator, clearly show that Mr. Obama is against the side of freedom.
Obama has proven to be against freedom, as demonstrated by last week’s humilating apology tour in Europe and the Middle East, during which he accused his own country of “arrogance,” not once acknowledging that it has first and foremost been America that has paid in blood and treasure to save half of Europe from the jackboot of Nazism and Soviet communism.
Obama has demonstrated continuously he has been against freedom in Iraq, showing with his votes as Senator and rhetoric as presidential candidate that he much preferred 25 million Iraqis suffer under their “Pharaoh” Saddam Hussein.
Obama has proven to be against freedom from Islamic terrorism in Israel and—given every resolution he’s passed so far, from the springing of G’tmo terrorists to the eradication of the term “war on terror,” —in the U.S. as well.
Obama has proven to be against the freedom that results from a vibrant free-market capitalist system. Instead, he prefers to impose state-controlled centralized freedom-suppressing regulations at all levels of our economy.
Obama has proven to be against the freedom of the millions of people who comprise the population of Cuba, Iran, and North Korea. He’d rather appease the “Pharaohs” of these nations than confront them.
In short, President Obama is the last person to attend a Passover seder, let alone host one. Unlike George W. Bush before him, President Obama doesn't know the first thing about freedom. And just because he is black—and especially because his black roots are not even American—he has no automatic right to claim to understand slavery. …
One year later—with relations with Israel having become more tense, with Iran having gotten closer to the bomb, and with Obama having just signed into law the largest government power grab in U.S. history, as I stand by every one of those points.
Jonathan Tobin at Commentary is also not amused or impressed with the White House’s second Seder:
New World’s Record for Chutzpah: Obama’s Seder
JONATHAN TOBIN - 03.28.2010 - 2:25 PM… After a week spent beating up on Israel, blowing a minor gaffe into an international incident, subjecting Israel’s prime minister to unprecedented insults that Obama would never think of trying on even the most humble Third World leader, and establishing the principle that the Jewish presence in eastern Jerusalem — even in existing Jewish neighborhoods — is illegal and an affront to American interests – after all that, Obama plans on spending Monday night mouthing a few lines from the Passover Haggadah at a Seder held in the White House.
According to the New York Times, Obama will take part in a Seder in the Old Family Dining Room along with a band of court Jews such as David Axelrod. The Seder, as the newspaper notes, will end, according to tradition, with the declaration of ‘next year in Jerusalem.’ (Never mind the current chill in the administration’s relationship with Israel.)”
There will, no doubt, be many American Jews who are still so insecure in their place in American society that they will feel flattered that even a president who has proved himself the most hostile chief executive to Israel in a generation will pay lip service to Judaism in this way. No doubt the planting of this sympathetic story on the front page of the Sunday New York Times is calculated to soften the blow of his Jerusalem policy and his disdain for Israel in the eyes of many of Obama’s loyal Jewish supporters.
The vast majority of American Jews are not only liberals; they are, as they say in Texas, “yellow dog Democrats,” meaning they would vote for a yellow dog if it were on the Democratic ticket. But surely a sycophantic article like the Times feature must grate on even their sensibilities. Can any Jew with a smidgeon of self-respect or affection for Israel think that having a president say “Next year in Jerusalem!” while sitting at a table with matzo and macaroons makes up for policies that treat the 200,000 Jews living in the post-1967 Jewish neighborhoods of their own ancient capital as illegal settlers on stolen land?
Perhaps Obama and his coterie of Jewish advisers think they are entitled to expropriate the symbols of Judaism to lend legitimacy to their anti-Israel policies. Of course, if Obama had any real sympathy for the people of Israel or the Jewish people, he might instead spend Monday night reevaluating a policy that appears to concede nuclear weapons to the rabid Jew-haters of Islamist Iran and reinforces the intransigence of the supposedly moderate Palestinian Authority and its allies across the Muslim world. …
I’m so tired of this unabashed anti-Israel and anti-Semitic piece of excrement being treated by my liberal Jewish friends and relatives as some Golden Calf. Wake up, people!
