Over the past few days we’ve seen the left, from the media to the White House, stubbornly deny the primary role religious extremism played in the Ft. Hood shootings. Like children desperately trying not to accept that Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy don’t exist, they’ve twisted themselves into pretzels trying to explain the massacre in every way except what’s so blatantly obvious.
But it’s not like the left has never acknowledged religious extremism before. In fact, liberals are very good at concocting it out of whole cloth, particularly when it promotes their agenda or suits their twisted view of their fellow countrymen in fly-over country.
In his latest article Jonah Goldberg reminds us:A few months ago, an anti-Semitic old nut named James von Brunn allegedly took a gun to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum to get payback against “the Jews” and killed a black security guard in the process.
In response to this horrific crime, the leading lights of American liberalism knew who was to blame: Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and the GOP. One writer for the Huffington Post put it succinctly: “Thank you very much Karl Rove and your minions.”
The fact that Von Brunn was a 9/11 “truther” who railed against capitalism, neocons and the Bush administration didn’t matter. Nor did the glaring lack of evidence that Rove et al ever showed antipathy for the museum. It was simply obvious that Von Brunn was the offspring of the “right-wing extremism [that] is being systematically fed by the conservative media and political establishment,” wrote columnist Paul Krugman.
May I also add that when Timothy McVeigh bombed a ffederal building in Oklahoma City in 1995, the leftocracy—including then-President Clinton himself!—outrightly blamed right-wing talk radio for nurturing McVeigh’s radicalism. To this day, almost 15 years later, Timothy McVeigh’s name is resurrected by the left whenever they talk about the alleged problem of Christian fundamentalism.
Earlier this year a lone (and yes, Christian fundamentalist) shooter killed abortionist George Tiller. What did the left in the media and Washington do? Instead of sympathizing with Tiller’s killer—as the left is currently doing with Hasan!—they made him the poster boy for wide-spread violent Christian extremism. The Obama administration even sent forces to other abortion clinics around the country, in case more attacks on abortion doctors were imminent!
And need we even rehash the left’s reaction to the anti-big government Tea Parties and town hall meetings that have taken place across the country this year? Everyone involved is ostensibly a angry right-wing extremist—even “terrorist” if you are the Obama administration’s DHS director—with fundamentalist Christian leanings and racist tendencies.
Remember when S.C. Congressman Joe Wilson shouted “You lie!” when President Obama stood before a joint session of Congress and … um, lied? To liberal luminaries like Maureen Dowd, Wilson was a racist of the highest order. Like squeezing a square peg into a round hole, Dowd literally put words in Wilson’s mouth to fit her twisted worldview of conservative Republicans—“You lie, boy! And the pathetic New York Times actually published it. What an embarrassment.
In sum, despite not a single iota of substantiation, the left in the media and Washington immediately labelled the Oklahoma City bombing, the Holocaust Museum shooting, and nationwide Tea Parties as instances of right-wing Christian fundamentalist extremism.
Yet when every terrorist attack going back basically to the first WTC bombing in 1993 right up until Ft. Hood has been so blatantly the work of radical Islam, the same supposedly enlightened lefties cover their ears yelling, “Lalalalalalalalalalalala.”
Even when liberals are forced to accept the possibility that a shooting or bombing is an instance of Muslim extremism, they have to remind everyone that “Muslims don’t have a monopoly on religious extremism.” The other day on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” Bob Schieffer and his guest, the pandering RINO Lindsay Graham, did just that:
SCHIEFFER: Do you think that the fact that this man was a Muslim—obviously he was either part of some terrorist plot—and I think most suggestions are that he wasn’t. It’s looking more and more like he was just, sort of, a religious nut. And you know …
GRAHAM: Yeah.
SCHIEFFER: Islam doesn’t have a majority …
GRAHAM: A corner on that …
SCHIEFFER: … or the Christian religion has its full, you know, full helping of nuts too.
Technically, this is true. But saying that Muslims aren’t the only religious extremists committing terrorist attacks is like saying that Democrats weren’t the only Party supporting Pelosi’s health (s)care bill Saturday night.
Liberals claimed during the Bush years that they, unlike conservatives, live in the “reality-based community.” Nothing could be further from the truth. Bottom line is this: The left has no use for truth, facts, common sense, or even common decency. All these have been casualties of the liberal template, which must not be violated at any cost.
Even at the cost of human life.
