Why do we never learn from history?
Dear God, help us. The world became a significantly more dangerous place this morning.
How prophetic Mike at Political Commentator was earlier this week when he wrote about appeasement and how this foreign policy strategy was what emboldened Hitler in the 1930’s. (And how prophetic I was for citing it in last night’s post!)
Why do we never learn from history?
We are in so much trouble.
My high school friend and radio host Scott Allen Miller comments on Facebook:
“The stunning choice made Obama the third sitting U.S. president to win the Nobel Peace Prize and shocked Nobel observers because Obama took office less than two weeks before the Feb. 1 nomination deadline.” So Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson had to serve more than a full term before they won, but Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize for what he did in his first 11 days in office?
Apparently. I have a feeling the Nobel “Peace” committee had Obama in mind for quite a while. What has Obama achieved to earn this accolade? All he has done is talk (mostly about himself and how much his own country sucks) and make empty promises, talk some more.
The Nobel committee praised Obama's creation of “a new climate in international politics” and said he had returned multilateral diplomacy and institutions like the U.N. to the center of the world stage. The plaudit appeared to be a slap at President George W. Bush from a committee that harshly criticized Obama’s predecessor for resorting to largely unilateral military action in the wake of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
Yeah, ya think? George W. Bush goes after evil Islamofascists, frees 50 million Muslims in Iraq and Afghanistan, and he gets crapped on by the Nobel “Peace” committee. And what about all those billions to fight AIDS in Africa? They couldn’t even give kudos to W for that!
Obama is going the way of Neville Chamberlain, and he gets international accolades for it.
Why do we never learn from history?
Besides, there are a number of false premises—believed, to be sure, not only by the Nobel “Peace” committee, but by the media that’s reporting this. First, the premise that returning the U.N. to the world stage is a good thing. The U.N. is a cesspool of tyrants and murderers. Their actions have, both directly and indirectly, caused death and suffering to billions of the planets inhabitants.
And let’s not even go there with the “largely unilateral” thing. Just because the world’s anti-American leftists didn’t want to acknowledge the several countries that formed the coalition in Iraq and Afghanistan doesn’t make them non-existent.
“Multilateral diplomacy”? That’s politically correct psychobabble meaning seemingly decent nations beg and plead, and ruthless nations hell-bent on oppression and hate get to amass more strength with impunity.
The left worldwide will be cheering today that President Hope&Change got his coveted Nobel “Peace” Prize.
But make no mistake: This now-certified man of “peace” is going to cause unimaginable suffering and hardship to the billions who used to rely on the United States of America for its strength and moral courage.
And make no mistake: The spreaders of evil on this planet—from Iran to Venezuela to North Korea—are smiling like a Cheshire Cat. Because they know Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize, a.k.a. the “Neville Chamberlain” Award, gives them carte blanche to do anything they want.
What’s Obama going to do, fight them?
Why do we never learn from history?
