From Mona Charen at JWR:
When a Christian says "Praise G0d," people nod politely or in agreement. When a Muslim shouts "Allahu Akbar," everybody ducks.
Ain't it the truth.
On Sunday morning I read the news story about the would-be Portland, Ore. bomber Muhamud on the front page of the NY Times. Infuriatingly, but not surprisingly, the word Muslim or Islam did not appear once.
Even more infuriatingly, not only did the (Newark, N.J.) Star-Ledger's article also not contain a single instance of the word Muslim or Islam, but the article itself was on page A-10! The front page didn't even present a tease regarding arguably the most important news story of the day.
Neither article mentioned that this was the eighth attempted terrorist attack on U.S. soil on Obama's watch -- or that those attempts were all perpetrated by Muslim males.
To which Charen writes:
Why is it so hard to tell the truth? The truth is that while the vast majority of Muslims are peaceful and law-abiding, there is a powerful strain within the religion that encourages murder and mayhem. Muslims, sooner or later, must deal with this, along with the rest of the world. But to suggest that acknowledging Muslim extremism amounts to bigotry, as this administration seems to, is both dishonest and cowardly.
But rest assured, many octogenarian nuns and little blonde girls carrying Strawberry Shortcake dolls were thoroughly frisked at the nation's airport this weekend.
Don't you feel safer?
