If President Golden Calf was supposed to usher in a “post-racial” era in America, Brian Stelter of the New York Times didn’t get the memo.
The Left has been so hell-bent on doing anything to paint the Fox News Channel as racist—even show up on there and call them “racist!” to their face like Howard Dean this past week. But sometimes, quite often actually, the R-word backfires on them.
Who can forget when MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann sucked the froth back into his mouth to ask the Tea Partiers to see the dearth of blacks at their rallies and ask themselves if it has significance? But unbeknownst to Olbermann apparently, MSNBC itself has zero black anchors or commentators.
And on Thursday, this Stelton guy jumped on the “Fox News is racist!” bandwagon. Matt Lewis at Politics Daily reports:
Brian Stelter, who reports on TV and digital media for The New York Times, sent out a tweet the other day that drew lots of attention.
As Stelter tweeted,
“Fox, as we all know, has biggest audience in prime time. But among African Americans, it’s smallest—29k vs. 134k for CNN, 145k for MSNBC.”
This of course, played into the “Fox is racist” meme, and, not surprisingly, Stelter’s words were retweeted many times (and also inspired several media blogs to further discuss Fox News’ lack of diversity).
But here’s where Stelter gets hoisted by his own petard:
Interestingly, though, the media site where Stelter primarily blogs (New York Times’ Media Decoder) suffers from the lowest percentage of African-American readers (4.6%) when compared to comparable media sites like Mediaite (5.8%), Gawker (6.4%), Mediabistro (9.2%), etc., according to Nielsen Media Research.
Maybe he should have checked that first?
Ya think???
What’s ridiculous is the premise that the percentage of black VIEWERship indicates whether or not a station is “racist.” I doubt the cable Polish, Greek, Chinese, and Korean networks have much of a black audience. Guess they’re racist too, according to this mental midget of a NY Times reporter (redundant).
And what’s also ridiculous is the Left’s interminable obsession with race, ethnicity, and gender. It drives everything they do and say. They couldn’t care less about content of character.
Which might have something to do with the fact that you’ll find very few on the Left who actually have character.
