Remember this blood-boiling story the next time some liberal/Democrat says that conservatives/Republicans want to suppress free speech and impose their will on you.
Last Wednesday in Las Vegas, the loathsome, megalomaniacal, and treasonous Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) issued a verbal threat to a Nevadan constituent whose job simply consists of selling adverstizing for the Las Vegas Review-Journal. At an Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce luncheon, Reid shook this private citizen’s hand and said “I hope you go out of business.”
That display of sheer thuggery and unprofessionalism prompted the publisher of LVRJ to pen this op-ed:
SHERMAN FREDERICK: Enough is enough, Harry
Stop the childish bullyingThis newspaper traces its roots to before Las Vegas was Las Vegas.
We’ve seen cattle ranches give way to railroads. We chronicled the construction of Hoover Dam. We reported on the first day of legalized gambling. The first hospital. The first school. The first church. We survived the mob, Howard Hughes, the Great Depression, several recessions, two world wars, dozens of news competitors and any number of two-bit politicians who couldn’t stand scrutiny, much less criticism.
We’re still here doing what we do for the people of Las Vegas and Nevada. So, let me assure you, if we weathered all of that, we can damn sure outlast the bully threats of Sen. Harry Reid.
On Wednesday, before he addressed a Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce luncheon, Reid joined the chamber’s board members for a meet-’n’-greet and a photo. One of the last in line was the Review-Journal’s director of advertising, Bob Brown, a hard-working Nevadan who toils every day on behalf of advertisers. He has nothing to do with news coverage or the opinion pages of the Review-Journal.
Yet, as Bob shook hands with our senior U.S. senator in what should have been nothing but a gracious business setting, Reid said: “I hope you go out of business.”
Later, in his public speech, Reid said he wanted to let everyone know that he wants the Review-Journal to continue selling advertising because the Las Vegas Sun is delivered inside the Review-Journal.
Such behavior cannot go unchallenged.
You could call Reid’s remark ugly and be right. It certainly was boorish. Asinine? That goes without saying.
But to fully capture the magnitude of Reid’s remark (and to stop him from doing the same thing to others) it must be called what it was—a full-on threat perpetrated by a bully who has forgotten that he was elected to office to protect Nevadans, not sound like he’s shaking them down. […]
Discussing this article, and subsequently interviewing Mr. Frederick, on tonight’s show, Mark Levin correctly said:
There’s a lot of newspapers I hope go out of business. The difference is, I’m not a senior member of the federal government. I am not a threat to a newspaper from a governmental perspective and that’s the whole point of the First Amendment. Not me, but Reid!
This scenario reminds me a little of when President Hope&Change warned corporate executives not to fly their jets to Las Vegas, which immediately inflicted a severe dent in the city’s tourism industry. There’s the President of the United States telling private citizens what they better do and better not do! Just who the @%^$ do you think you are, you fascist thug! That’s right, you heard me. I just called President Commie a fascist thug. (Hey, maybe it will get this blog a couple extra hits.) And Harry Hitler Reid is no better, howdaya like that? From standing on the Senate floor last year and censuring Rush Limbaugh—another private citizen—to calling his own constituents protesting the fascist government-run health (s)care bill “evil-mongers.” The guy is scum, pure and simple. (And if you think I’m being too mean-spirited and vitriolic, go stick your head back into the New York Times editorial page or turn on Jon Stewart’s show. They’re oh so polite and civil there!)
Because this type of thuggery and threats to private citizens is what passes for acceptable governance for today’s Democrats. They are so freaking out of control, they are so drunk with power, that they think they can get away with anything. And don’t tell me conservatives/Republicans do this too, because they don’t. There’s actually a political party in this country that still believes in the Constitution and the Amendments therein.
There’s talk of experts predicting torrents of GOP victories over Democrat incumbents in 2010. I sure hope so. Because these dangerous and despotic lowlifes need to get the hell out of my government.
