Here’s the long-awaited (well, by me at least) installment of the “Weekly Roar” from guest blogger Loud Lion. My apologies, Lion. I didn’t get to post this until Saturday morning so, as an Orthodox Jew, you have to wait until sundown tonight to see your post on-line.
Over the weekend my wife was kind enough to throw me a little family BBQ birthday bash. My treat, besides the BBQ which I can not get enough off, was to not have to do any of the cooking (which I normally do, willingly since I have a wonderful BBQ). So, I sat in a corner, in the shade with my multiple beers.
(Side note, I had to drink my own beer cause someone got conned to buy fruity beer by the beer distributor.)
Well, along comes my like minded brother-in-law [yes, that would be me], sits down besides me and we start to discuss the weekend happenings in the liberal dominated world and all its ills. Shortly thereafter comes along my father to join us. My father is as liberal as liberals can get. He actually gave up a career in law because he could not justify the way law enforcement treated criminals or potential criminals (this was before Miranda became the norm).
He asks what we are talking about, and I tell him. I believe at the time we were talking about the upcoming nomination hearings for Justice Sotomayor. There was back and forth regarding what qualifications a good Justice should have, and whether this particular Justice had those. My father admitted (or acknowledged) that Judges should not legislate from the bench and that we should uphold the separation of powers as outlined in the Constitution. We all agreed that there was nothing that the Republicans could do to stop her appointment, and then the disagreement was found. My father felt that the Republicans should keep quite and bide their time until they can achieve a shift in power. I felt that the Republicans should be as vocal as possible to revitalize the Republican Party base. And it was then that my father gave me my gift and went home (he only lives around the corner) instead of allowing our disagreement to escalate.
Liberal thinking is that conservatism is a minor issue. That thing that the people in Middle America who cling to their guns and religion hold dear. That it is right wing kooks living in the backwoods of some rural area. Wrong. We are here and we are growing. Why is it that the top radio syndicated talk shows are conservative in base? Why is Fox New Channel whipping CNN and MSNBC daily? Why do most of Americans consider themselves conservative?
That is why we need to cheer our conservative leaders to be more vocal. Who was not proud of Senator Jeff Sessions this past week? Who was not sickened by the love fest showed by other Senators, who even tried to change history and what someone said on the record? Which true conservative was not proud and gosh darn it I know I should not say it, got a thrill up there leg when Governor Palin was announced and when on her Hockey Mom Pit Bull attacks?
Be proud of who you are, and do not allow the tearing down of a great and wonderful country to be remade in the model of a man who hates his country and all the wonderful things it has given him, and will be more then happy to let anyone know that … provided the TelePrompter is working.
Another topic I need to mention is this: Senator Edward Kennedy is a murderer. He should not be celebrated as an elder statesmen who has done wonderful things for our country (Go back and see some of his landmark bills and what they have done to this country). July 18, 1969 should be remembered for the loss of life to Mary Jo Kopechne. Mary Jo was what was called a “Boiler Room Girl” for working in, well, boiler room conditions on Robert Kennedy’s 1968 presidential campaign. She was part speech writer, part secretary, but from all accounts a nice girl who believed in Robert Kennedy and his causes (which at the time, I would have too).
Mary Jo was devastated by the assassination of Robert Kennedy (as was Rosie Greer, the great football player and personal friend and bodyguard of Robert Kennedy). She left politics, only to return 6 months later. A party held in the Boiler Room Girl’s honor, the 4th such party, was held in 1969, and Teddy was oh so eager to help Mary Jo catch the last ferry of the night.
Teddy Boy, who swears he was not drinking—really, anyone ever see Teddy not drinking at a party, or anytime for that matter—makes a wrong turn off a wooden bridge. He escapes what is sure to be a watery grave, and again swears he tried to save Mary Jo, but he could not. He then goes back to his hotel room, dries off, changes, showers, takes a nap, and then calls his cronies to tell him what happened. Oh yeah, the cronies, his cousin and his lawyer, who he got to keep their moths shut through client/attorney confidentiality.
AT NO POINT DID TED KENNEDY EVER REPORT THE ACCIDENT. HIS INVOLVEMENT WAS NOT DISCOVERED UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING WHEN THE CAR WAS DISCOVERED. HE ALSO ACTIVELY ATTEMPTED TO ESTABLISH AN ALIBI AT THE HOTEL AT WHICH HE WAS STAYING.
OK, want more? Because I know you do. Mary Joe did not drown to death; she died of asphyxiation, and if Teddy had just stopped at one of the 4 houses he passed on the way back to his hotel to get help, Mary Jo would have probably survived. But wait, there is more. Mary Jo’s parents refused to allow an autopsy to be performed. There had been speculation that Mary Jo was pregnant at the time of her death, but no one will know for sure.
All I know, is that in the wake of “Teddy” getting rave reviews and his elevation to elder statesmen of the U.S. Senate, I feel we should all be loud and let your conservative thinkers and speakers know you are behind them.
