Liberal Media Bias: MSNBC's Michelle Kosinski's Dishonest Climate ReportS (Yes, Plural)
It does not get better than this, folks.
For all of you who, like DNC chair Howard Dean did the other day, call Fox News a dishonest, politically biased, and agenda driven “fake” news channel, this one’s for you.
Warner Todd Huston at NewsBusters reports on an interesting broadcast from MSNBC:
A 15-year-old British girl named Camilla Hempleman-Adams is being hailed as a “hero” for trekking across the ice floes of the North Pole to become one of the youngest women to explore the frozen world of the penguin... well, at least as far as MSNBC is concerned. In their report on the feat of endurance, MSNBC had a shot (about a minute into the video) of penguins on an ice floe. Only one little problem: penguins don’t live at the North Pole. Oopsie. [...]
Now, if you go online to view the MSNBC report in question, you won’t find the aforementioned penguins. Why? Because MSNBC has edited them out! Evidently somebody contacted them to inform them there are no penguins at the North Pole. The original version, with the penguins about 29 seconds in, is here.
Sorry, MSNBC, but we’re in the age of instant news and information, where everything posted online has the potential to be captured by someone somewhere.
Huston rightly asks:
[I]f these people can’t even get a simple fact like that correct, how can we believe them that global warming is destroying the world? If they don’t even know where the penguin lives, how can we believe their “science” that states the world is doomed with global warming?
Over at Hot Air, Ed Morrissey quips: Something got exposed in this broadcast — scientific illiteracy at MS-NBC. I’d even go as far as to say willful scientific illiteracy. Or, something more sinister than that: Maybe the right-wing blogosphere simply caught the latest of an endless series of the mainstream media trying to pull one over on viewers to advance their own agenda.
You may be asking: Am I accusing MSNBC of being a dishonest, politically biased, and agenda driven “fake” news channel?
You darn right I am. I’m callin’ it as I see it: MSNBC’s agenda was to make you believe that the North Pole is melting and that’s it’s being caused by man-made global warming. And they wanted it so bad that they were perfectly content with dispensing with all journalistic integrity and threw in footage of melting ice clearly not from the North Pole. Except they got caught only because some ignoramus included a shot with penguins in it. (I can just see them now in their offices: "And I would’ve gotten away with it too if it weren’t for those meddling right-wing bloggers!")
How underhanded! How dishonest! Why, that sounds like something Fox News would do, right?
But wait — it gets even better. An eagle-eyed Hot Air reader “Lawhawk,” who blogs at lawhawk.blogspot.com, made this astute observation: The newscaster doing the report is none other than Michelle Kosinski. Who’s that, you ask? Well, I didn’t realize myself until Lawhawk reminds us that Kosinski appeared in a report on NBC’s Today Show. The date was October 14, 2005, the Northeast had just been trounced by heavy rains and she was reporting while paddling a canoe in the middle of Wayne, NJ — where a street used to be. Take it away, Michelle:
Good mooorning! Well, obviously we’re getting a break from the rain but not the flooding. This is essentially part of the Passaic River now in this part of the neighborhood ...
You hear that? Oh, my goodness. Main St. in Wayne, NJ, is now part of the Passaic River. Oh, the humanity! Will somebody think of the children!
But just that moment, two men walked — yes, walked — across the screen in front of the camera. The water was up to their ankles. Oopsie.
It’s not only the sheer audacity of this reporter to lay this crap on the unsuspecting viewers that’s disgusting. It’s the fact that NBC lets her keep her job so she can keep doing it! Aw, what do you expect from a station who gives a forum to Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann?
‘Scuse me, I’m gonna switch back to Fox News now, thank you.
