Liberal Lie #5: Conservatives Want to Impose their Religion on Us; Liberals Don't (Cont'd)
The first time I posted on this topic back in December, I wrote about the left-wing environmentalist campaign to impose their religion on the rest of us, starting with pushing legislation to ban the traditional incandescent light bulb. In Israel, the Jerusalem Post reported about greens pushing Jews to light one less Chanukah candle because those damn things emit so much polluting CO2!
Well, here we go again. This time in Denver, many of whose citizens this Sunday observed the ridiculous "Earth Hour." This was an appointed hour for people to turn their lights off to save the planet. They did it in other cities around the world, too.
Well, if the hysterical CO2-fearing environmentalist left wants to be stupid and perform these laughable religious rituals, they're more than welcome. It's a free country, right?
Ahhh! But as always with the left, it's not enough for only them to practice their religion de jour; they need to impose their religion on you too, you Earth-destroying heathen!!!
And so, here is a Denver Post story describing the scene at the author's home Sunday night during Earth Hour. This excerpted text comes from the Drunkablog, who added the funny -- yet very appropriate -- links to the original story:
This column came knocking at 8:10 p.m. Saturday."It's Earth Hour," said one of a gaggle of seven young neighbors holding candles on our front porch. . . .
"Why are your lights on?" asked [one], eyebrows furrowed, glaring at me with 120 watts of disappointment.
These were the children of the 500 block of High Street, a plucky bunch of grade-schoolers whose games and laughter grace our neighborhood even more than the tall trees.
When the clocks struck 8:00, they mobilized to save the planet by knocking loudly on neighbors' doors with a metal key — a technique one of the older boys learned selling tins of caramel corn for Boy Scouts.
Wonder what merit badge you get for that little stunt?
"We need to save all the juice in the earth so there will be some left when we're old," said 8-year-old Dara Pasquino.
"Just this hour of darkness is saving, like, trillions and trillions of gallons," added her brother, Dante, 10.
"We're teaching grown-ups not to be wasters," added Juliana Pfeifer, 6. "Besides, firelight makes you sing songs and tell stories. Candles make everything more wonderful."
That's a very funny quote, that last one from cute little Juliana. But my favorite is the one from Dante: "Just this hour of darkness is saving like, trillions and trillions of gallons."
OK, let's deconstruct this. I'd say the only truthful and factual word in that whole sentence is "like." Trillions and trillions of what? CO2? Really? Based on what? I'd like to believe that this 10-year-old boy pulled the word "trillions" out of his ass, because when you're 10 (or even when you're not 10), "trillions" is a whole lot!
But why am I not convinced that Dante and his comrades where not informed by their teachers and activists that Earth Hour would be saving "trillions and trillions [of CO2]"? Because the leftist preachers of this false religion, who will stop at nothing pursue their agenda, have no qualms about lying and exaggerating to impressionable young children about global warming (oh sorry, climate change).
Don't believe me?
"I believe it is appropriate to have an over-representation of factual presentations on how dangerous it is, as a predicate for opening up the audience to listen to what the solutions are."- Al Gore, Grist Magazine, May 9, 2006
"... [A]s scientists, we are ethically bound to the scientific method, in effect promising to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but -- which means that we must include all the doubts, the caveats, the ifs, ands, and buts. On the other hand, we are not just scientists but human beings as well. And like most people, we'd like to see the world a better place ... To do that, we need to get some broad based support, to capture the public's imagination. That, of course, entails getting loads of media coverage. So we have to offer up scary scenarios, make simplified, dramatic statements and make little mention of any doubts we might have ... Each of us has to decide what the right balance is between being effective and being honest."
- Prof. Steven Schneider, Stanford University, ally of Gore and fellow GW fanatic
This is indoctrination and religious zealotry, plain and simple. It's coming from the left. It's already in your children's school, and soon it's coming to your door. And you won't be able to do anything about it.
Because Separation of Church and State has no relevance when you're talking about the Church of Liberalism.
Other blogs covering this include Gateway Pundit and Slapstick Politics. Blogs who reported on the "Earth Hour" event include Copious Dissent and Andrew Bolt's blog at the [Melbourne, Australia] Herald Sun.
Finally, Moonbattery [via Burning Hot] has reports of, well, moonbats, using candles and bonfires during Earth Hour. Duh!!!
UPDATE: [h/t Burning Hot] The San Francisco Citizen blog has this report on Earth Hour by the Bay.

Thanks for the tip, BH.

Don't forget that the 'millions and trillions' of energy-thingies saved by switching off all the lights can go to Al Gore's mansion!
...For about 13 minutes.
